Olivia Larsen and Jenna Boelter doubled up in all-state honors, securing first team status by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.

Larsen, a junior from Newell-Fonda, and Boelter, a Bishop Garrigan senior, were both named to the Class 1A top squad by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association earlier this week.

Maddie Jones of South Central Calhoun, who was first team by the IPSWA, was second team by the IGCA, while East Sac County’s Taylor Houska was third team IGCA and second by the IPSWA.

North Union’s Chloe Lofstrom was named to the third team in Class 2A.

Larsen, who also made the all-tournament team last week at state, averaged 19.7 points per game, shooting 49 percent from the field and burying 43 three-pointers. She also posted 5.2 steals per game and 4.9 assists with 13 blocks.

“It just means a lot,” Larsen said, “knowing that my teammates pushing me in practice and working hard every day has more than paid off this year.”

Boelter scored 20 points a night, hitting 96 triples in helping get Bishop Garrigan back to state for the first time in 18 years. She leaves as the school’s career scoring leader, along with several other records to her credit.

“It’s a rewarding feeling to see my name among some of the most elite players in the state,” Boelter said. “The most rewarding honor for me, though, was ending my career with my team at state.”

Jones, a junior, averaged 20 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.9 steals and 5.4 assists per game for the Titans. She was one of just five players to record at least 100 steals and 100 assists this year, along with Larsen.

“I am so extremely honored to have received these awards,” Jones said. “I couldn’t have done it without the help of my teammates and my coaches working their hardest to help us be successful not only as individuals, but as a team.

“Although these honors are very humbling and I am so happy to have received them, I would have gladly traded in my individual awards if I could have helped my team get down to Wells Fargo.”

Houska, a junior, averaged 19 points per game, hitting 78 three-pointers. She also grabbed 5.5 rebounds and led the Raiders in assists (93) and steals (60).

Lofstrom, a sophomore, helped the Warriors reach the state semifinals. She averaged 17 points and nine rebounds per game, shooting 60 percent from the floor.

Newell-Fonda’s Dick Jungers earned coach of the year honors after guiding the Mustangs to a runner-up finish at state.
