South Central Calhoun’s Maddie Jones, Olivia Larsen of Newell-Fonda, and Bishop Garrigan’s Jenna Boelter were all named first team all-state girls basketball players in the inaugural Iowa Print Sports Writers Association release on Monday night.

Jones, a junior, made the first team in Class 3A. Larsen, a junior, and Boelter, a senior, were both 1A selections.

Taylor Houska of East Sac County was placed on the second team in 3A.

Jones averaged 20 points for the 22-3 Titans. The 5-foot-5 guard also led South Central Calhoun in rebounds (138), assists (134) and steals (147).

Larsen scored at a 19.7-point clip for the Mustangs, who lost just one game and finished as a state runner-up for the sixth time this past weekend. Like Jones, Larsen led her squad in rebounds (189), assists (131) and steals (140) as well.

Boelter averaged 20.3 points for the Golden Bears, who also reached the state tournament field in 1A. She hit 96 three-point baskets, which was by far and away the most in the entire state for Garrigan’s class.

Houska, a junior, scored at 19.2 points per contest for the Raiders. She knocked down 78 triples.

Ashley Joens, a senior at Iowa City High, was selected as the 2018 Miss Iowa Basketball. Joens averaged 30.7 points and 11.4 rebounds for the 25-1 Little Hawks, who placed second in 5A.
