HAMPTON — The St. Edmond boys jumped out to an 18-2 lead and never looked back, doubling up Hampton-Dumont here Friday night, 62-31.
Andrew Gibb scored 26 points and Will Woodruff added nine points with eight rebounds and four assists for the Gaels (2-1 overall, 1-1 in North Central Conference).
Jackson Kochendorfer added eight points, with both Drew Schaeffer and Jed Tracy chipping in six each.
“We played well early and overcame a bit of a lull in the third quarter by knocking down some three-pointers,” SEHS head coach Adolph Kochendorfer said. “Credit Hampton-Dumont, because they continued to play hard and that forced us to do the same.”
St. Edmond led 33-15 at the half and held a 23-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Sean Flaherty grabbed eight rebounds for the Gaels.
“We were able to play everybody and that was big with a game Saturday night,” Kochendorfer said. “It was good to jump out on them early and get a big lead. We came out ready to play.”
Quinn Logan led the Bulldogs (0-3, 0-2) with 10 points.
The Hampton-Dumont Student Council ran a “Bucket Run” to raise money for student Jade Nicholson, who is battling leukemia. The two schools raised $2,000 for Nicholson.
The Gaels will host Des Moines Christian Saturday night, with tip set for 7 p.m. The Lions are 5-0 after a win over Woodward Academy last night.
