Teske 3rd, Ayala 5th at UWW

AKRON, Ohio — Three-time state wrestling champion Brody Teske scored a third place finish here over the weekend at the UWW Cadet and University Nationals.

Teske, who recently completed his junior season with Fort Dodge, is unbeaten in his high school career.

Drake Ayala, who will be a freshman at FDSH in the fall, placed fifth.

In the quarterfinals at 54 kg of the Cadet Freestyle division, Teske lost to Robert Howard, 9-8, after Howard scored a takedown in the final seconds. Howard, a multi-time state champion who also won the Flo Tulsa Kickoff Classic and Flo Tulsa Nationals, went on to win the title.

Teske rebounded on the consolation side, scoring four consecutive wins to earn bronze. In the third-place match, he defeated Jakob Camacho, 10-4.

Ayala also suffered a loss in the quarterfinals to the eventual runner-up, Chance Lamer, 17-6. He went 2-2 on the consolation side to earn his fifth-place showing.

The winners of each UWW Cadet Freestyle and Greco-Roman division qualify to represent the U.S. at the 2017 UWW Cadet World Championships. Both Teske and Ayala qualified for Cadet Nationals and Junior Nationals.
