Fort Dodge sweeps in softball

MARSHALLTOWN — The Fort Dodge softball team picked up a doubleheader sweep over Marshalltown here Monday night.

Scores were 15-8 and 10-4.

FDSH head coach Andi Adams was happy with the kind of attitude her squad showed.

“Marshalltown came out full of energy, but we showed that we have a lot of heart and a lot of fight,” Adams said. “At this point, you can’t look past anybody. Maybe our record isn’t great (14-11 overall), but we are playing the best of the best; same goes for Marshalltown.

“It was a lot of energy going on and we had to match it.”

Both Maggie Harvey and Daphne Alstott had three hits in the opener, while Alstott stole four bases and Harvey three. Loghen Schnetzer and Bre Tjebben each recorded two hits, with Tjebben also earning the win inside the circle.

In the nightcap, Tehya Miller was 3-for-4 with five RBI and a triple, with Schnetzer added three more hits. Kaden Pederson was 2-for-3 at the plate.

Katelyn Werning, a freshman, struck out seven to earn the win.

“We were without Meagan Hartman, a .400 hitter and our No. 2 pitcher, because she had college orientation,” Adams said. “But we had girls step up including Katelyn, Loghen and Tehya.

“We’ve just got to continue to build and push forward.”

The Dodgers return to action on Wednesday, hosting No. 11 (Class 5A) West Des Moines Dowling at Rogers Park. The event is Pride Night, as the program will honor the youth softball players in the city.
