Dodgers roll past Waterloo West

WATERLOO — The Fort Dodge baseball team snapped a three-game losing skid here Thursday night, dodging the rain to down Waterloo West, 9-3.

Drew Callon pitched a complete-game, striking out six and allowing just eight hits and two walks. He was also 3-for-4 at the plate for the Dodgers (10-20 overall).

Lucas Williamson went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, while Nate Scherff had two hits, including a double, and drove in four.

“It started with our pitching,” FDSH head coach Blake Utley said. “Drew worked quick and did a nice job of getting ahead of hitters. We also picked off four guys and really executed at the plate.

“We hit the ball well and were able to do what we wanted with our bunt game.”

Bryer Nelson also had two hits for Fort Dodge, which takes on Urbandale in a make-up contest Friday at Ed McNeil Field.
