Bulldogs handle SEHS

ALGONA — The St. Edmond baseball team did not start a big week the right way, falling to Algona here Monday night, 16-6 in six innings.

The Gaels committed seven errors in the game, as they dropped their third straight.

“We are just stuck in a pattern right now and it is not acceptable baseball,” SEHS head coach Joe Shanks said. “It’s the routine plays that we aren’t making and that is out of character for us.”

Dawson Hauptmann earned the win for the Bulldogs, striking out seven over five innings. Trevor Bormann was 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs, while Grant Goche, Nick Stein, Collin Sexton and Noah Carlson all had two RBI.

Jack McEvoy did record four strikeouts in just under two innings of relief work on the mound for SEHS. Connor Allison had two hits, Cael Kolacia drove in three and stole a base, and Brant Reiling was 2-for-3 with two RBI at the plate.

“Jackson (Kochendorfer) and Jack did a nice job for us,” Shanks said. “They stopped the bleeding and gave us an opportunity to try and get back in it.”

Cole Allison scored three times from his leadoff spot, while Matt Grein and Garrett Schmidt each had three runs for the Bulldogs.

St. Edmond returns to action Wednesday night, hosting two-time defending Class 2A state champion Clear Lake at Rogers Park. Algona takes on Humboldt Wednesday.

The Gaels dropped the junior varsity contest, 17-3, falling to 3-2 on the year. Gage Johnson had a double and drove in a pair.
