Algona tops Gaels in softball
ALGONA — The St. Edmond softball team dropped a North Central Conference game to Algona here Monday night, 7-4.
After falling behind 4-2, the Gaels tied it in the sixth with a pair of runs, but the Bulldogs answered with three in the bottom of the inning.
“We gave ourselves a chance in the sixth, but we left a couple on and that came back to hurt us,” SEHS head coach Nick Clark said. “I’d like to have that sixth back, but this was a good learning experience for us.”
Erin Flattery was 3-for-3 at the plate with a stolen base, while Jacque Oberg and Megan Flattery each had two hits and a steal.
“Erin has really been hitting the ball well here lately,” Clark said. “She also did a great job at third base. We moved her there a couple games ago and she’s learning on the job.”
St. Edmond returns to the diamond on Wednesday, hosting Clear Lake at Rogers Park. Algona meets No. 4 (Class 3A) Humboldt Wednesday on the road.
The Gaels dropped the junior varsity contest, 14-3, suffering their first loss in four games. Cambrie McBride led St. Edmond at the plate.
