Sports Park Raceway debuts

Champions were crowned in six different feature races as the 2017 Sports Park Raceway season opnened in front of approximately 800 fans here on Sunday night.

Myles Michehl of Fort Dodge captured the Hobby Stock title, with Jeff Fink of Denison finishing in second and Fort Dodge’s Ryan Boland placing third. Fellow Fort Dodger Lance Deal earned the Stock Car victory over Duncombe’s Jeff Lyon and Calvin Lange of Humboldt.

Ryan Griffith topped fellow Webster City resident Jason Hahne for the Late Models win. Rocky Caudle was the SportMod champ, with Ty Griffith of Webster City taking second.

Riley Paysen of Wall Lake won the Sport Compacts A-Feature, while Joe McBirnie of Boone was golden in the Modifieds A-Feature.

There were 73 total racers in action, with 21 in the Sport Mod field, 16 in Modified, 12 in Stock, 11 in Hobby Stock, seven in Sport Compact, and six in Late Mod.

Gates open at 4 p.m. this Sunday. Hot laps will be at 5:30 p.m., with racing to follow. A special $5 flat admission rate will be administered this week at Sports Park Raceway, located at 2298 South River Road just south of Fort Dodge.
