4 titles for FD girls in Mason City

MASON CITY — The Fort Dodge girls track team came away with four first-place finishes at the Mason City Invitational here on Monday.

“Overall it was a solid effort,” said Fort Dodge head coach Todd Constable. “The weather forecast wasn’t that good, but it ended up being a decent night and the kids ran well.

“We had some good times and we just improved overall. As a team, I was proud of how we competed.”

Shariah Smith earned her fastest time all year in 12.38 to win the 100-meter dash.

The quartet of Maggie Harvey, Daphne Alstott, Shania Al-Hameed and Car’Maiya Mosley won the 4×200 in 1:53.52.

Smith, Alstott, Al-Hameed and Mosley claimed the 4×100 title in 51.30. Mosley also took the shot put crown (33-10).

The quartet of Smith, Mosley, Harvey and Alstott were second in the sprint medley (1:58).

Sydney Recker finished third in the shot put.

Also finishing third was Tessa Widen, Alaysha Ross, Lehr Thorson and Maggie Harvey in the 4×400 (4:28).

The 4×800 team of Madelyn Klocko, Ross, Shayla Reed and Baili Roberts were third in 11:46.

“Shariah had her best time in the 100,” Constable said. “That puts her Top-15 in state and some years that would be in the state finals.

“We cut our time in the sprint medley and Daphne and Maggie stepped up and ran some quarters.”

The Dodgers are back in action on Thursday at West Des Moines for the CIML Iowa Conference Meet.

Action will begin at 5 p.m.
