Garrigan rolls past Earlham

ALGONA – Fourth-ranked Bishop Garrigan had no trouble with Earlham in its Class A playoff opener on Friday night.

The Golden Bears (10-0 overall) won 35-6 after building a five-touchdown lead in the first half.

Gibson Behr had a big night on the ground, rushing for 127 yards on 19 carries. Behr had a 22-yard touchdown run.

Grant Buscherfeld did his damage in the end zone as well, rushing for two touchdowns, both from one-yard out. He contributed 44 yards on 12 carries.

Quarterback Brad Capesius was 3-for-6 passing for 94 yards, which included a 29-yard touchdown strike to Joel Vaske.

Capesius also had a 22-yard touchdown run. Vaske had two catches for 58 yards.

Behr led the defense with 12 tackles and a fumble recovery. Chase Winkel chipped in 12 tackles.

Grant Arndorfer had six tackles and two sacks.

Also pacing the defense was Buscherfeld (8 tackles), Nick Mergen (6) and Mark Mather (4).

The Golden Bears recorded with 319 total yards, with 225 coming on the ground.

Bishop Garrigan will now face West Hancock (8-2) on Friday in Algona.
