Wagner, FD boys 3rd

STORM LAKE – The Fort Dodge boys cross country team finished third at the Storm Lake Invitational on Tuesday.

The Dodgers had 112 points. Unity Christian (48) was the team champion, followed by Spirit Lake (89).

Algona (178) placed sixth.

Fort Dodge senior Ryan Wagner (16:52) crossed in third place. Jason Halverson was also Top-10, placing sixth (17:15).

Justin Vaughan (24th in 18:02), Brennen DeCoursey (37th in 18:27) and Brady Read (42nd in 18:45) rounded out the FDSH lineup.

Algona’s Trey Engen crossed in ninth (17:25). Collin Yi (32nd in 18:21), Zach Ortloff (33rd in 18:23), Cameron Kaltschnee (47th in 19:00) and Brandon Steil (57th in 19:22) were also counters for the Bulldogs.

Fort Dodge’s Gabby Estlund grabbed a Top-15 performance on the girls side, finishing 14th in a time of 20:52.96.

“Our top runners, Ryan and Gabby, ran season bests. They’re really coming along,” said Fort Dodge head coach Tim Hanson. “Jason Halverson ran a solid race as well.

“As a whole, both teams made improvements from last week and that’s what we look for as a coaching staff. Hopefully the improvements come each week, and in a month from now, when its regional meet time, we’ll be running our best.”

Also counting for the Dodgers on the girls side were Anna Taylor (41st in 22:25), Brylea Grady (71st in 25:05), Kayla Smith (77th in 26:38) and Shayla Reed (82nd 28:15).

Algona’s Morgan VanZante was 19th in a time of 21:23. Recording counting scores for the Bulldogs were Emily Deal (29th in 21:53), Ashley Weringa (43rd in 22:44), Kelsey Connick (57th in 23:48) and Maria Meis (58th in 23:49).

The Dodgers will run at the Ames Invitational on Saturday.
