FD’s Brayton, Faith sweep in Australia

JIMBOOMBA, Australia – Fort Dodge natives Justin Brayton and Gavin Faith swept the first round races here to open the 2016 Australian Supercross Championships.

Brayton won his SX1 main inside the Jimboomba X Stadium with a total time of 16:49.192 over 20 laps, while Faith captured the SX2 main in 12:43.712. That race was 15 laps.

“So stoked to get the win,” Brayton posted on his social media page. “Thank you to everyone involved who has helped make this happen. Been a lot of work the last couple weeks but this makes it well worth it.”

Brayton is competing for Honda Genuine Racing. Faith, riding for Penrite Honda, is the reigning U.S. Arenacross champion.

A total of 20 racers competed in Faith’s event, while 19 hit the starting line in Brayton’s.

Brayton had the second-quickest qualifying time entering the finals, while Faith had the fastest.

The championship is contested over six rounds of racing in four Australian states. Next action is Oct. 8 for the racers.
