Weichert goes for 224 for Bulldogs

SPIRIT LAKE — Defending Class 2A runner-up Spirit Lake had no answer for Algona’s Will Weichert. Weichert went over 200 yards as the Bulldogs (1-0 overall) earned a 33-20 victory on Friday. Weichert carried the ball 24 times for 224 yards and one touchdown. Quarterback Nathan Manske was 9-for-12 for 121 yards and two passing TDs, connecting with Evan Allie and Taevyn Zinnel for scores. Allie had six catches for 92 yards. Cael Rotert had two interceptions and returned one for a score.

Humboldt’s McIntire rushes for three TDs

HUMBOLDT — Humboldt opened the season with a 35-13 victory over Spencer on Friday night. Cash McIntire had a big night on the ground for the Wildcats (1-0 overall), rusing for three touchdowns. He scored from one, four and 54 yards. Jackson Flaherty threw a 65-yard touchdown strike to Chase Flaherty. Nash Palmer returned a fumble 54 yards for a score.
