Williamsburg wipes out West Liberty, 15-1

A shot at history remains for top-ranked Williamsburg.
The Raiders are looking to become the first team in Iowa girls high school history to win four consecutive state softball championships.
Williamsburg (38-5 overall) made quick work of No. 8 West Liberty by a 15-1 count in a Class 3A opening-round action on Monday at Rogers Park.
The Raiders pounded out 12 hits in four innings, including three for extra bases.
Williamsburg will now square off with fourth-seeded Mount Vernon (31-7) on Tuesday on Iowa Central Field at 1 p.m.
These two teams met earlier in the season with nearly the same results, as the Raiders earned a 10-1 victory.
Former Twin River Valley and Iowa Central baseball player Adam C. Berte has guided the Raiders in his 10th season and has accumulated a 309-107 record. Williamsburg is making its ninth state trip in school history this week.
Four Raiders had multiple hits, and everyone either had a hit or scored a run.
Pitcher Jersey Metz (23-3) did what she needed to both in the circle and at the plate. Metz was 3-for-3 with three RBI. In the circle she allowed only four hits and one earned run, striking out four and walking only one.
Taylor Sanchez, Harper Meyers and Makenna Capper all had two hits. Sanchez scored three times and scored five runs.
Capper had two doubles and four runs driven in. Clarissa Suhr had the big hit, hitting a home run and driving in two. Meyers had an RBI.
West Liberty will now meet eighth-seed West Liberty (20-14) at 10:45 a.m. on Iowa Central Field.
