ADM BRINGS ITS A GAME

Adel-ADM has been to six straight state tournaments, but the Tigers had never been able to cross the title threshold.

In Thursday's Class 4A state championship contest, senior star Lauren Hagedorn made sure the program's luck would change.

The finals matchup between the top-seeded Tigers (37-4 overall) and second-seed Carlisle (36-7) was a rematch of the 2024 state final, when the Wildcats won 7-6.

The Tigers wouldn't be denied this time around, though, as they cruised to a 6-0 victory and the school's first ever state title.

In the summer of 1970, Adel was a state champ. ADM had also been a runner-up in 1994 and '95.

Hagedorn (20-4) was brilliant Thursday night and the entire week for the Tigers, as the Iowa State University recruit pitched two consecutive shutouts.

"We have been on the other end of this situation… it really sucks," Hagedorn said. "Being on the winning end is really exciting and really big for our school and community."

Against Carlisle, Hagedorn allowed only four hits and zero earned runs. She struck out nine and walked three.

The future Cyclone beat her pending collegiate teammate, Mallie Stoner of Carlisle. The Tigers were able to get to Stoner, pounding out timely hits and opening the scoring early.

ADM scored two in the first and fifth, then tacked one on each in the third and the sixth.

In her four pitching victories this week, Hagedorn allowed only one earned run and had 24 strikeouts. At the plate, the first team all-stater was 5-for-11 with eight runs scored, four RBI and two home runs to make the all-tournament team.

"We did it for each other and the girls in the past years," Hagedorn said. "It means a lot. We've been here six times in a row and had been beaten five times, but this time we got it done in our final game of our senior year.

"It's just huge."

In the championship matchup at Rogers Park, it was all-tournament captain Kinzee Maxwell who sported the big stick. Maxwell was 3-for-3 with two RBI and run scored and a two run home run for the Tigers.

Maxwell was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.

Makenna Pitlick drove in two runs, while Aubrey Noring and Finley Schaul also had doubles.

In the four days, Maxwell was a tough out, as she was 9-for-12 with six RBI and two home runs.

For Carlisle, Alyvia Freeman and Anyah Oatts combined for the four Wildcat hits.

Also making the all-tournament team from ADM were Ella Smith and Elliotte Von Roden. Carlisle's Oatts, Freeman and Chloe Rolling were on the squad.

Fort Dodge landed Hope Alstott and Calliegh Zimmermann, both juniors, on the 4A all-tourney squad.
