Martensdale-St. Marys rolls into finals

Campbell German was almost perfect and top-ranked Martensdale-St. Marys had little trouble at the plate, posting a 9-0 victory over Wayne here Wednesday night in a Class 1A state semifinal at Rogers Park.

German tossed a one-hitter, striking out six without walking a batter for the Blue Devils. She helped her own cause by going 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and three runs scored.

Only leadoff hitter Ava Whitney kept German from a no-hitter, recording a single in the seventh.

Martensdale-St. Marys gave German all the run support she would need in the first, plating two runs. They added two more in the third and fifth, finishing things off with three in the sixth.

Brynnly German had two hits and scored twice, Sydney Bears had two hits and Hadley Pearson drove in a pair.

Izzie Moore of Wayne struck out nine over six innings.
