Williamsburg takes 3A bronze

Williamsburg bounced back from a tough loss in the state semifinals in a big way, taking third in Class 3A with an 11-1 five inning victory over Saydel Friday at Rogers Park.

The Raiders (34-11 overall) are coached by Adam C. Berte, a graduate of Twin River Valley and Iowa Central. Williamsburg has made state each of the past three years now, placing second in 2020 and third the last two seasons.

Elle Ridgeway, a junior who broke the school record for career home runs and RBI this season, hit another homer in the first. She drove in three, as did Rylee Vercande.

Jersey Metz, Makenna Hughes and Baylie Von Ahsen each added RBI. Vercande tallied two hits.

Saydel (32-6) was back at state for the first time since 2007, when they qualified for the first time and also placed fourth.

Rylee Carney, a third baseman who is headed to Iowa Central in the fall to play for Bo Tjebben, had a hit. Dakota Wright drove in the lone run.
