Spartans in line for three-peat

Top-ranked Collins-Maxwell wasted no time on their path to a three-peat in Class 1A on Wednesday.

The Spartans (21-1 overall) scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back, beating fourth seed Lynnville-Sully (19-3) 7-0 in a 1A semifinal at Rogers Park.

University of Virginia recruit Mikayla Houge (20-1) picked up her 20th win of the season. The senior, who entered the tournament with 188 strikeouts, scattered three hits for the Spartans, striking out 13.

At the plate, Ella Kahler was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Emma Kahler, Olivia Pasquariello and Erica Houghe drove in runs as well.

Denali Conover had two hits for the Hawks. Cayler Noun Harde and Korinne Jansen had the other hits.

Collins-Maxwell will face Clarksville in the Class 1A championship on Friday. The title game will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Kruger Seeds Field (D-1).

Clarksville defeated Lisbon 4-0 in the other semi.

Lynnville-Sully will play Lisbon in the 1A third-place game at 6 p.m. on Iowa Central Field.
