Louisa-Muscatine did it in Class 2A last year.

Now, the Falcons will look to repeat the feat — this time, in 3A.

The second-ranked Falcons (35-4 overall) advanced past No. 4 West Liberty (29-6) on Wednesday in a Class 3A semifinal.

It won’t be an easy task for Louisa-Muscatine, as they’ll suit up against two-time defending champion Davenport Assumption (40-2). First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. on Kruger Seeds Field (Diamond 1) Friday.

With the score knotted at 2, the Falcons came to life in the bottom of the fifth, plating six runs before adding two more in the sixth.

McKenna Hohenadel hit a ball into the shallow outfield to plate two and cap the scoring in the fifth. Sophomore Maddie Mashek contributed an RBI-single and two bases-loaded walks from Mallory Hohenadel, and Kylee Sanders pushed the lead to four.

Kylee Sanders, Katie Hearn and Mallory Mashek had two hits each for the Falcons. McKenna Hohenadel and Mallory Mashek had two RBI each. Katie Koppe socked a home run.

For the Comets, Haylee Lehman recorded two hits. Sailor Hall cleared the fence with a long ball for West Liberty.

Hailey Sanders (21-0) earned the win for the Falcons. She gave up six hits and one earned run, striking out seven.

Isabelle True (17-2) allowed nine hits to her former teammates. True led the Falcons to the championship last season and was the Class 2A all-tournament team captain.

West Liberty will face Waterloo Columbus in the Class 3A third place game at 2:30 p.m. on Iowa Central Field (Diamond 2) on Friday.
