North Linn makes history

The first time was the charm for North Linn.

In its maiden voyage at the state softball tournament, the Lynx won the Class 2A championship with a 3-0 shutout over No. 13 Alta-Aurelia on Thursday at Rogers Park.

Junior Abby Flanagan shut down the entire tournament, and on Thursday night, she was basically unhittable. Flanagan (29-2) struck out 16 Warrior batters and only allowed four hits. Her 16 strikeouts tied a 2A tourney record.

She finished the tournament 3-0 with two shutouts. She allowed only one earned run and gave up 10 hits in the three games. Flanagan finished with 37 strikeouts and was named the all-tournament team captain.

Natalie Gallery was 2-for-3 with a run and RBI for the Lynx. Jill Smith and Jenna Lemley also drove in runs.

Joining Flanagan on the all-tournament team was Hannah Bridgewater and Kaitlyn Sommerfelt.

Sommerfelt was 3-for-9 with a triple, two runs and three RBI. Bridgewater went 2-for-10 with three runs scored.

Brittany Turnquist, Abby Kraemer, Sierra Hill and Alaina Westphal all had hits for the Warriors.

Kraemer, Jessica Larson and Shea Peterson were all-tournament selections.

Kraemer suffered the loss in the championship game. She gave up four hits, two earned runs and had 11 strikeouts.

Kraemer gave up 10 hits and struck out 31 batters in the tournament. She was 2-for-9 in the three games.

Larson was 2-for-8 with a run and Peterson was 3-for-9 with a run and an RBI.
