Farmers Business Network

Farmers Business Network expands; Iowa location to better serve members

By Kristin Danley-Greiner 3 min read

In 2014, two men had the foresight to create an independent ag-tech platform with a mission of empowering family farmers around the world to be financially profitable while working toward a sustainable future.

Amol Deshpande and Charles Baron established the Farmers Business Network, which now has more than 55,000 farmer-members worldwide.

By sharing agronomic precision data with each other, Deshpande and Baron knew that all farmers could make better decisions on seeds and agronomics -- no marketing ploys or sales pitches, just the facts.

It took less than two years for the idea to catch on and the network rapidly grew to include thousands of farmers. Each new farmer that joins Farmers Business Network brings new ideas, additional seed information, more agronomic analytics and a boost in buying power for the collective.

Farmer-members hail from all over North America, representing more than 117 million acres of member farms -- greater than the size of California, Baron noted. All 50 states and almost every crop and livestock type is represented by FBN members.

The Farmers Business Network provides farmers with tools that allow them to maximize profit potential in their operations with such goals as lowering the cost of production through smart input buying using FBN Direct or capitalizing on financing and insurance solutions through FBN Finance.

Farmer-members also can access sustainability premiums through FBN's gradable platform that's integrated with major grain buyers such as POET and ADM, Baron said.

"The network helps members maximize the profit potential of their operation. Farmers can also choose to share data with other members that can provide key insights into what to plant and when to plant it, for example," Baron said.

This past fall, Farmers Business Network opened a new fulfillment center near Larchwood. It runs daily deliveries of inputs on FBN trucks to grower-members across Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota. Farmers have the option to pick up items at the facility and save even more.

"FBN's goal is to be able to provide next-day delivery level service of products like crop protection throughout its network. Farmers in the area can always check availability of products on FBN.com and see how soon that product can reach their farm," Baron said. "The FBN logistics network has been built from the ground up to serve the specific needs of rural farm deliveries. We also have primary fulfillment centers in Newton, Iowa, and Shakopee, Minn., as well."

Farmers Business Network also is one of the most well-funded startups in the ag-tech sector. In 2021, they announced a $300 million Series G round, bringing their total funds raised to $870 million and their valuation to nearly $4 billion.

Farmers can sign up to be a part of Farmers Business Network for free anytime online at www.fbn.com/signup or by calling (844) 200-FARM.
