President Trump’s ‘One, Big, Beautiful Bill’ delivers for Iowa agriculture
More than a week ago, I voted to pass President Trump’s “One, Big, Beautiful Bill,” which will help rebuild American manufacturing, turbocharge our economy, and deliver real tax relief for Iowa families, farmers, and small businesses. As the only member of Congress serving on both the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Agriculture Committee, I played a pivotal role in writing this transformative legislation, ensuring that our families, farmers, and businesses had a seat at the table. Representing the second largest agriculture-producing congressional district in the entire nation, I can say with confidence that this bill will help our farmers and producers grow, succeed, and thrive.
Growing up in rural Iowa, passing family farms from generation to generation was a way of life. This tradition ensures that we can pass farmland onto the next generation who will care for the land and prevent our farm ground from falling into the hands of our foreign adversaries, especially China. However, the death tax — which is an egregious double tax on the transfer of assets like farmland — threatens our long-held and cherished farming traditions and unfairly targets family-owned businesses. Fortunately, at my request, our “One, Big, Beautiful Bill” delivers additional death tax relief, keeping family farms and family businesses whole. A massive tax bill from the federal government should not force families to sell the farm or close the doors on their business for good.
President Trump’s “One, Big, Beautiful Bill” also makes important investments in the farm safety net. We increased reference prices for commodities like corn and soybeans, strengthened crop insurance, funded cutting-edge agricultural research, and supported initiatives to grow our export markets. We further restored the decades-old standard that exempts the value of assets found on family farms and at small businesses from being assessed as part of a family’s net worth when Iowa families submit the Federal Application For Student Aid (FAFSA) for college aid purposes so that farm kids have the same shot at going to college as everybody else. This legislation also includes my bills to lower the cost of crop insurance for the next generation of Iowa farmers and producers and to help our community banks offer loans to our farm producers at more affordable rates. Additionally, our “One, Big, Beautiful Bill” helps our farmers make investments and purchase new equipment.
President Trump is a friend and ally of our farmers and American agriculture. From making trade agreements fairer for our producers to bolstering the farm economy, the Trump administration stands with the American farmer 100 percent. Our “One, Big, Beautiful Bill” will continue that work by supporting our farming community, lowering taxes on agriculture, ensuring that our producers can compete across the globe and grow the food and fuel that our country and the world relies on.
