FD Fine Arts

Susan Ahlers Leman

Supporting artists and donors, the Fort Dodge Fine Arts Association is able to fulfill its mission of strengthening our community by fostering creativity and celebrating life through the arts. FDFAA is nearing the end of its second full year with Executive Director Shelly Bottorff. Shelly has been key to facilitating and encouraging partnerships and collaborations amongst our members, supporting artists and the community at large. Her efforts have included coordinating art exhibits and entertainment for ShinyTop, Market on Central and Main Street Fort Dodge’s Pop-Up events. Shelly also took a leadership role in the planning and execution of Blues Under The Trees 2018.

FDFAA is now entering another exciting collaboration. FDFAA and Iowa Central Community College will partner as Shelly begins an expanded role in the arts as “Coordinator, College and Community Fine Arts and Accompanist” at Iowa Central Community College. In this role, Shelly will continue to be responsible for providing leadership in coordinating, promoting, and marketing Fine Arts programs for its members, supporting artists and the community, as well as for Iowa Central Community College. Many of Shelly’s duties with both organizations will overlap and be dual functions and duties which will enhance, support and benefit both Fort Dodge Fine Arts and ICCC. These include:

1. Collaboration with community partners to enhance the arts in local communities.

2. Working closely with support groups, the City Administration and other governmental and non-governmental agencies, and others in the community to increase citizens’ appreciation for the arts. This will also include offering educational programs to various citizen groups to encourage awareness for the various programs and events.

3. Coordination of intern opportunities for ICCC students to work alongside various Fort Dodge Fine Arts members and organizations.

4. Ensuring that program development meets the needs of both campus and community students by sustaining high caliber programs through the curriculum design and implementation with arts faculty.

“We are thrilled to have Shelly Bottorff on board at Iowa Central Community College. Her leadership and relationships in the region’s art circles, as well as her talents as an accompanist, will be assets to the College, our students and the communities we serve, “ said Dr. Dan Kinney, president, Iowa Central Community College.

Likewise, “FDFAA is very excited to partner with Iowa Central Community College. The College has had a successful partnership with the Rec and is now expanding that to the arts. In her new role the College, Shelly will be able to further advance FDFAA’s mission and impact.”

Susan Ahlers Leman is president of the Fort Dodge Fine Arts Association.
