AFES Community Christmas signup is nearing

To the editor: This year marks AFES’s fifth anniversary of continuing the “Operation Christmas” tradition, now known as AFES Community Christmas. Since taking over this beloved program, we’ve made some changes to better serve our community, yet our mission remains the same: bringing joy and essential support to families in need. AFES Community Christmas is more than just a toy giveaway; it’s about meeting real needs. We provide each child with at least three toys, one new outfit, and essential hygiene items. Families who apply and qualify will receive necessities like ...

If it’s not broken, don’t fix it

To the editor: There is a quote about change being good. I truly believe that is true, if the change is needed. When it comes to county supervisor, Mark Campbell is the best candidate and an example of don’t fix it if it’s not broken. As a lifelong Fort Dodge resident and family business owner, I have spent decades working on city and county committees and boards. I try to stay involved in what is going on and I can honestly say, I have never met a more qualified supervisor than Mark Campbell. To the editor: Flash back to March 2020 ... Christina and I were seven months into married life in a new city. Things couldn’t have been much better and spring was finally starting to spring. Then Rudy Gobert got COVID and everything started to shut down, especially out there on the East Coast where older adults were dying in droves. But that wasn’t the worst part — the worst part was having a president who was continually misinforming the public about the severity of the disease and contradicting experts at the CDC. The mental effort and cognitive dissonance of attempting to ...

Wants Trevir Michehl for sheriff

To the editor: There are many important factors and candidates to consider in the upcoming Nov. 5 election. While the national election may be dominating the spotlight, local elections are incredibly important — and often impact our lives more directly than the national. There is one particularly awesome candidate in our local elections for Webster County — and that’s Trevir Michehl for sheriff. For one, I think it’s important in a democratic republic that we have choices. I am grateful to Trevir for running and providing us in Webster County a choice rather than just another ...
