Republican supports Sand

2 min read

To the editor:

I am a farmer, a business owner, and a Republican. I am supporting Rob Sand for governor because I believe he offers the kind of common sense leadership Iowa needs.

I live in a predominantly Republican county. I am not asking my neighbors to change their party affiliation. I am asking them to consider the person seeking the office and whether that person will govern fairly for all Iowans.

Rob Sand reminds me of former Gov. Robert D. Ray, whom I consider one of the best governors Iowa has ever had. I admired Gov. Ray's decency, common sense, and willingness to work with people across party lines. To me, he represented leadership that put people first.

I sincerely see those same qualities in Rob Sand. That comparison means something to me. It reflects my honest belief about the kind of leadership he could bring to Iowa and the qualities I have long respected in a governor.

As a farmer and business owner, I value practical solutions. I want a governor who listens, uses good judgment, and understands that the responsibility of the office extends to everyone, including those who voted for someone else.

We do not have to agree with a candidate on every issue to believe that person can serve our state well. My support for Sand does not change who I am or the values I hold. It reflects those values.

I want moderate, common sense government that treats people fairly and works toward solutions. Gov. Ray remains a standard of that leadership for me, and Rob Sand reminds me of it.

That is why this Republican is supporting Rob Sand for governor. I believe he will work to govern the right way -- for all Iowans.
