Iowa Central is essential to economy
To the editor:
In economic development, one truth remains constant: a strong workforce drives a strong economy. Here in the Fort Dodge region, we face a growing demand for skilled workers in health care, trades and agriculture. Meeting that demand requires vision, investment and collaboration.
Iowa Central Community College has been – and continues to be – one of our most important partners in this work. From customized training for major employers to preparing students in high demand programs such as welding, plumbing, HVAC, nursing, dental hygiene and agricultural science, Iowa Central is at the forefront of workforce development. When companies consider investing in Webster County and Fort Dodge, one of their first questions is: can you provide the skilled workforce we need? Thanks to Iowa Central, we can answer confidently.
The proposed bond renewal is not a new tax. It is simply a continuation of an existing levy that has already delivered tremendous value. Iowa Central serves 6,000 students and employs 1,200 people, directly supporting one in every 26 jobs in our region. The ripple effects are significant as graduates who stay local, businesses that expand and families who choose to build their lives here are drawn by the opportunities that exist.
As CEO of the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance, I see every day how essential Iowa Central is to both our current employers and future investments. Renewing this bond is a fiscally responsible way to strengthen our talent pipeline, sustain economic growth and ensure that our region remains competitive for years to come.
