Supports Haley for president

To the editor:

Wouldn’t it be great if the president understood small town America?

That’s one of the reasons I’m supporting Nikki Haley for president and encouraging my friends and neighbors in Webster County to vote for her at the Jan. 15 caucus.

Nikki was born and raised in a town not much different than Webster City. At 14, she started helping with the bookkeeping at her family business. After getting an accounting degree at Clemson and a short stint in an accounting firm, she returned to the family business in her hometown.

Later, after finding that the government made life harder for small businesses, she entered public service in her state legislature. From there she became governor and then was asked to serve as the ambassador to the United Nations. She’s a proven leader with local, state, national, and international perspectives.

I was impressed by Nikki when she was at the U.N. She faced the anger of the Middle East nations when America transferred its embassy to Jerusalem. And she made the news by standing up to those countries that took American foreign aid, but voted against America. I didn’t know it at the time, but she made a chart of how much foreign aid each country received and how often they voted against us, which she gave to the president. Trying to buy friends and pay-off enemies has not been a successful foreign policy.

A mother of two and a wife with her husband in active military service in Africa, Nikki brings a fresh perspective on America to the changing world we live in. She’s a strong, common-sense leader for a strong America. Please join me in supporting her at the caucus for president.
