Garden Club expresses thanks

To the editor:

Thank you to all who supported the Fort Dodge Federated Garden Club’s recent annual plant/ garage sale. An amazing crowd of enthusiastic shoppers bought a large percentage of our plants during the first two hours. Congratulations to Linda Sorenson, who won the raffle for the beautiful flowering hanging planter, donated by Jeff Becker. Additional congratulations go to those geranium winners who were present at our half-hour drawings. They were Christian Guthrie, John Peterson, Wanda Wisthoff, Shirley Chase, Merrily Dixon, Julie Traster, Larry K., Michelle Crimmins, Deb Breon, and Jodie Peterson. Thanks to Becker Florists and Garden Center, the businesses who graciously allowed us to post fliers in their restaurants and stores, the Lions Club for making their facility available to us, The Messenger for publicity, and all who purchased plants and other items and donated to our cause. Thanks, too, to area residents who generously contributed with orchid pots, Easter lilies, freshly-dug ferns, and perennial divisions so we could have more plants to sell. Thanks to PICA leaders Jan and Phyllis Wilson, who picked up the unsold plants to use in PICA projects around town. It’s wonderful to see how so many people can come together to support our community and keep it strong and beautiful.

Profits from our plant sale and annual Tour of Gardens support many projects, including trees for various parks in Fort Dodge, gardening books for the local library, horticulture and landscape design scholarships, the Greater Des Moines Botanical Gardens, the Iowa Arboretum at Luther, our local flower show, and many more projects.

All in the garden club join me in thanking you for your support. We’ll see you at the July 6 Twilight Tour of Gardens and again at next spring’s sale. Happy Gardening!
