To the editor:

The EPC, the Environmental Protection Commission, has nine members appointed by Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds. Requirements say three members must be active in livestock or grain farming. Farming’s a business, right? One must be from the business of finance or commerce. One must be actively engaged in management of manufacturing. Do you see a pattern? Five would be a majority for business. Four must be from one political party. Why are there no requirements for environmentalists – even one? Why don’t they just be honest and rename it BPC, the Business Protection Commission? Maverick would be proud how they stack the deck.

On Feb. 15, 2022, the EPC denied a request for stricter rules to monitor ground water at CAFOs with earthern manure basins. Family farmers, the EPC and factory farms don’t care if your kids drink well water posioned witn cancer-causing nitrates. And yet you keep voting Republican. Ever hear of crapping in your own nest?

Remember, elect a clown, expect a circus. The head clown is gone, but the clown car is left and the midget-minded are spilling out. Are Iowa Republicans proud of what’s going on in Washington or just gluttons for punishment?
