Former state senator supports abortion rights
To the editor:
Iowans will not have the opportunity to vote on an abortion ballot initiative in November like Kansas voters did. But the issue will certainly be on the ballot in terms of the gubernatorial and legislative votes.
In conservative Red Kansas, voters clearly voted to support protecting women’s access to abortion by 59 to 41 percent. Kansas, a state that has not voted in favor of a Democratic president since 1964 or a Democratic U.S. senator since 1932.
If the question was taken to Iowa voters results would be about the same. An Iowa Poll released July 24, indicates 60 percent of Iowans support legal abortion.
But Gov. Kim Reynolds just doesn’t get it. She would limit women’s rights and liberties and to an abortion, contrary to the will of a majority of Iowans.
Abortion is health care decision to be made by a woman and her physician. It is decision to be made by a woman, not a male-dominated legislature, nor an out-of-touch Gov. Reynolds. Abortions should a rare, safe and legal.
Gov. Reynolds cannot simply ignore the will of a majority of Iowans.
