Says Swing for a Cure was a success

To the editor:

The 16th annual Swing for a Cure golf outing was held on June 4 this year at the Fort Dodge Country Club. The weather was picture perfect with 30 teams enjoying the fun-filled day. The outpouring of generosity and support this event receives year after year is a wonderful tribute to this community’s members and businesses.

The event raises funds that are utilized in the outpatient Diabetes Center at Trinity Regional Medical Center. The invaluable education provided by this center gives those with diabetes the knowledge and skills necessary to lead a long and healthy life, reducing the risk for complications from diabetes. One in three people will be diagnosed with diabetes in their lifetime. When diabetes goes undiagnosed or uncontrolled, serious health complications can occur. Early diagnosis and education are key components to living a healthy life with diabetes.

Funds raised from the event also help to send children with diabetes to Camp Hertko Hollow in Boone. This camp provides children the opportunity to learn various methods to control blood sugars while living with diabetes and emphasizes the importance of doing so. Camp Hertko Hollow provides an environment where children can build lifetime friendships they can learn and grow from.

The Outpatient Diabetes Center at Trinity Regional Medical Center would like to thank the sponsors, participants, organizers, and volunteers at this year’s event. We would like to recognize our additional Swing for a Cure committee members: Joe and Sally Kangley, Trinity Foundation and Jamie Johll for their continued support and effort year after year.

It is with the support from those involved that we can continue to strengthen our programs and provide quality care for those with type 1 and type 2 diabetes in our community. We look forward to seeing you next year at the 2022 Swing for a Cure golf outing.
