To the editor:

With the midterms quickly approaching, I believe there are a number of reasons to keep Republicans in control on a state and national level.

I appreciate that republicans believe in the sanctity of human life. I believe how a nation treats their most vulnerable says a great deal about that nation. The science is settled on the fact that every baby is a separate human life. Look no further than a recent story of a baby that had a tumor, was removed from the amniotic sac for fetal surgery, than returned and delivered at 35 weeks. Would we really do surgery on a “blob of tissue”? This baby’s heart was beating outside of the mother. I’m thankful I can vote for a party that sees the value of every human life, created in the image of God, and worthy of the right to life. Mother Teresa said it best when she said, “Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use violence to get what they want. That is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion.”

Secondly, the republicans have proven their economic plans will work. Whether it’s lower taxes, decreased regulation, steady wage growth, or record low unemployment, republicans have delivered on their promises. In Iowa, we see low unemployment and we now have a budget surplus that will be four times higher than projected. And while there are a number of statistics to point to in regards to the economy, all you really need to know is that it is doing so well that Barack Obama has reappeared in an attempt to take credit.

Finally, the Republicans are the party of law and order. Look no further than our southern border. Democrats have decided that regardless of a person’s intentions or background, they should be allowed unfettered into our country. That does not prove they have more compassion, it just proves they are foolish. A nation that does not protect its borders is no longer a nation. America brings in 1 million immigrants a year. We are a compassionate country- but people must come legally so they can be vetted.

I will be supporting Republicans in this election. They are the party of life, a strong economy, and preserving our country’s borders.
