Put Coats for Kids on your giving list

To the Editor:

We all know Iowa winters can be brutal. Unfortunately, in our community, we have children who are unable to escape the cold by wearing a warm coat. Without a coat, children are not able to play during recess at school and that is such a valuable time for them to release energy, enjoy time with their peers, and get a break from their class work.

The Community Health Center of Fort Dodge and Shimkat Motors have partnered for many years now to collect and hand out coats during the Coats for Kids coat drive. This year, we have added two more drop-off locations: Coldwell Banker and Mineral City Mill and Grill. You will receive one free appetizer with your donation at Mineral City. I personally recommend the Italian nachos.

Coats for Kids 2018 is on Dec. 1, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at CHCFD, located at 126 N. 10th St. in Fort Dodge.

Our community does a great job of coming together when needed, and this is another opportunity to show how much we all care. Please consider donating winter items for children, or give a monetary donation that will allow us to purchase brand new coats. You can drop donations off at the any of the above locations, and monetary donations can be dropped off at, or mailed to, Shimkat Motor Company, 3126 Fifth Ave. S., or Community Health Center of Fort Dodge, 126 N. 10th St.
