Objects to cartoon

To the editor:

I can’t put off writing any longer.

My husband, John Westphal, and I have lived in Humboldt for over 50 years and have subscribed to The Messenger almost the whole time. I hadn’t paid much attention to the direction to which the paper had shifted until the cartoon named “Speed Bump” depicting God, our Lord and Saviour, as a forgetful old man, was allowed to be printed in the Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018, Comics Section on Page 5B. This is an abomination to the Lord and is unacceptable. The current trend of ridiculing and trivializing our Creator God and His Son, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, is bringing condemnation and great grief to our people and to our country.

We are already experiencing upheaval and chaos because of our falling away from the tenets and laws that have guided us throughout history. We were formed by the grace of God. Our founding fathers praised and honored God’s name. For over 200 years we have enjoyed our freedom and prosperity. We have been falling away from God’s purposes for our lives and sinning greatly. As God told his people in the Old Testament and is telling us now: (2nd Chronicles Chapter 7: Verse 14) “Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land.”

I am ashamed of the disrespect and immorality and murder of innocent children and anarchy that have invaded our country and lives. (I have been told “There are no atheists in foxholes.”) Jesus came to show us God’s love for us all and died for us all and rose again to show us that He won the battle over evil and we need only repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and we will be saved and live with Him eternally. I believe.
