Responds to critics of school closings

To the editor:

To those who are upset when school is canceled, remember just because the roads are fine in town doesn’t mean they are out in the rural areas, not to mention, it may be canceled because of the temperatures.

If a bus’s engine was shut off, or stalled, and wouldn’t restart, think of how many kids could get frostbite, or freeze to death before another bus could get there to pick them up. I don’t think busses keep extra blankets on them for each child.

There’s always time to make up for missed school days at the end of the year, but you can’t replace missing fingers, toes, or children lost from the cold, or an accident.
