Wants change

To the editor:

It is time to stop the name-calling, demonizing and to look at the issues.

Hillary Clinton is standard-bearer for the Democratic Party. Its platform contains many “planks,” which begin with negative remarks about Mr. Trump, and his supposed unconcern for a group of people.

This is followed by the promise of a government “handout” to this group. The funds come from taxes – paid by “we the people.” Problems are solved by higher taxes.

The Republican platform begins with an affirmation of the Constitution, and highlights the “Bill of Rights,” promised to “we the people.” The standard bearer is Donald Trump, a successful businessman. He has pledged to uphold the platform of the Republican Party.

There has been an enormous erosion of law and order in our nation. I personally need laws – as guide for behavior. Since we are human, I believe all of us need such a guide, to correct what is wrong, and to encourage right behavior. We need this for the protection of the law-abiding, and for the curbing of the lawless – and if need be, their punishment. We need this because of the divisions that have been created by divisions promoted among us. This is the first function, greatest blessing and noblest responsibility of government. A return to the Bill of Rights, of law and order is overdue.

It is my prayer that our nation is a nation of law and order, of high moral standards. At the end of the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln stated the need well: “That this nation under God shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people shall not perish from the earth.”

I believe that replacement of the executive branch could be a giant step in the right direction.
