A story worth noting

To the editor:

Some people just don’t read the news.

One night about 10, a police officer pulled over so that he could get something out of his cruiser. A young boy pedaled up on his bicycle. He needed Band-Aids for a friend injured in a game. Soon a young girl ran up with the same request. Then another boy on a bicycle with the same.

The officer gave a number of Band-Aids, some gauze, tape, and cleaning solution to the children. Then he went to the nearby house to make sure that the injury was not beyond the help of simple first aid. There must have been eight to 10 children on that porch, talking with the officer, asking questions and thanking him for his help.

Some people just don’t read the news.

This was a white officer; the children were black. He didn’t know them personally, nor did they know him. Yet they recognized a safe, reliable and sympathetic source of help. He saw children needing his service.

Some people just don’t read the news. I’m a proud citizen and chaplain.
