Area residents should answer the Call of the Wild
Event will support Friends of Webster County Conservation
As spring begins to bloom around us, many people are going to be spending a growing amount of time outdoors. And those whose idea of getting outside extends far beyond their backyards may feel they are answering the call of the wild.
On Wednesday, everyone with any level of interest in nature can respond to a different Call of the Wild.
This one is a special event to raise money for the Friends of Webster County Conservation. It offers a program that may encourage everyone to explore Iowa’s waterways.
An experienced outdoorsman’s insights on what can be found along those rivers and streams will highlight the event, which is the largest annual fundraiser for the Friends group.
Larry Stone, the keynote speaker, will give a presentation entitled “Floating Through History.” It will provide a look at the natural and cultural resources that can be found paddling down a stream or even just walking beside it. With decades of experience as a photographer, writer, naturalist and explorer, Stone is well-versed on the subject.
The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a social. The program will begin at 6 p.m.
It will take place at the Matt Cosgrove River’s Edge Discovery Center, 20 N. First St.
Admission is $10. Tickets will be available in advance and at the door. To reserve tickets call Webster County Conservation at (515) 576-4258 or email conservation@webstercountyia.gov.
Money raised at the event will help to pay for developing the playscape alongside the Discovery Center.
This promises to be a fun evening that will educate, entertain and even inspire some outdoor adventures. Plus, it will support a worthwhile effort benefitting area kids long into the future.
We encourage everyone to answer the Call of the Wild.
