100 Women Who Care makes a big impact
Its generosity is felt by dozens of other groups
The organization called 100 Women Who Care may be one of the newer philanthropic groups in Fort Dodge, but it is capable of making a big impact.
It made such an impact this week by making a donation of about $10,000 to Golden Day Adult Day, which strives to provide meaningful programs to enhance the dignity, independence and quality of life for older people and those with disabilities. Right now, Golden Day Adult Day is run entirely by volunteers. It operates on alternating Mondays at Citizens Central.
The organizers of Golden Day envision it becoming a fulltime operation complete with staff members. You don’t have to be an expert in human services to realize that growing the program is going to cost a lot of money. The big donation from 100 Women Who Care will help.
The group 100 Women Who Care is exactly what its name says that it is. Its membership consists of about 100 local women who meet quarterly. During their gatherings, they pick an organization to support. The organization must be a non-profit based in Webster County. Then each woman contributes $100 to that organization. For each individual, it’s not an especially big donation. But when all of those $100 checks are combined, the result is a gift in the $10,000 range. And that is a big donation.
There are 100 Women Who Care groups throughout the nation. The local one was organized in late 2013 and made its first donation – to Athletics For Education and Success (AFES) – in January 2014.
This organization is a great addition to our community.
