Iowa Central shows enrollment increases

Gains show students find school to be the right one for them

Iowa Central Community College continues to attract students to its high caliber programs and has seen a nice increase in enrollment.

The college’s Board of Directors was recently informed that the total number of students is 5,058 across its three campuses in Fort Dodge, Storm Lake and Webster City. That’s up 2 percent from the first semester in the fall of 2021.

Those students come from 97 of Iowa’s 99 counties. Additionally, the student body includes people from 45 of the 50 states. There are also 105 international students from 40 other countries, which is a remarkable figure for a community college in Iowa.

Those numbers tell how many students attend Iowa Central. Educational administrators also pay a lot of attention to the number of credit hours that those students are pursuing. For the fall semester those students are taking 51,257.5 credit hours.

In the fall of 2021 there were 5,009 students taking 50,511.5 credit hours.

The college’s career academies posted big gains in student head count and credit hours. They saw an 18.29 percent increase in students and a 13.35 percent increase in in credit hours.

Vocational and technical programs posted 3.9 percent increase in students and a 5.21 percent increase in credit hours.

Those 5,058 students picked Iowa Central because it is the college that meets their educational needs. It is a place where students can get the training needed to go right to work. It is also a place where students can complete a couple years of college before going to another school to earn a bachelor’s degree.

It is good to have such a vital institution in our community.
