Dragon boats to come roaring back

Volunteers are needed to make this event a success

The sights and sounds of long dragon boats slicing through the water of Badger Lake will return this weekend.

This will be the 25th anniversary of the Badger Lake Dragon Boat Bash. It will be a two-day event on Friday and Saturday featuring a concert by Band K, fireworks and lots of racing action as the dragon boats knife through the water propelled by teams of 20 paddlers.

Organizers say 15 to 20 teams are expected. That includes 12 local teams plus ones from Chicago, Kansas City and Wisconsin.

A silent auction to benefit the Cancer Center at UnityPoint Health–Trinity Regional Medical Center will begin Friday and conclude Saturday.

With all that set to go, just one more thing is needed to make the event a huge success: volunteers.

Volunteers are needed to staff the front gate at Badger Lake in John F. Kennedy Memorial Park. They are needed for food and beer ticket sales, to run concession stands, manage the parking area, serve as race timers and help with loading the boats.

There are various shifts available, starting at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Volunteering for this event will put people in the heart of the action. It will also make them part of the team whch puts on a successful international event right here in Webster County.

No volunteer will have to be present for every minute of the Badger Lake Dragon Boat Bash. Volunteers will be able to pick what shifts they want to work.

There are a couple different ways volunteers can sign up to offer their services to to the Badger Lake Dragon Boat Bash. They can go online to www.signupgenius.com/go/70a0e48a4a928a7f49-2022.

Potential volunteers can also contact Linda Donner at linda.donner@frontiernet.net or (515) 571-9642.

With all the various volunteer openings, there is a way for pretty much everybody to contribute. We urge people to volunteer for this fun event.
