Unique ride to help breast cancer patients is Saturday

It’s time to hit the road for a good cause

There will be some angels riding throughout the Fort Dodge area atop some growling, roaring hogs on Saturday.

To be clear, winged residents of heaven will not be riding livestock. These hogs will be Harley-Davidson motorcycles and the angels aboard them will be some of our relatives, friends and neighbors hitting the road to help those suffering from breast cancer.

The 16th Angel Ride to save the TaTas is Saturday. This unique cruise raises money to help breast cancer patients afford things they need for their care that are not covered by insurance. Shirley Hottman, who had been part of the Fighting Angels Abreast dragon boat team, came up with the concept for the ride about 16 years ago. The event has grown ever since.

Since its start, the ride has generated hundreds of thousands of dollars, which have been given to the Trinity Foundation to help breast cancer patients.

Registration for this year’s ride begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at Amigo’s, 280 N. First St.

The route includes stops at Ole Town Road in Gowrie, 30 Yard Line in Grand Junction, Downtown Lounge in Glidden, Fat Guys in Auburn, and Rudy’s in Farnhamville. Riders will then return to Amigo’s for an auction and food.

Traditionally, there are a lot of big motorcycles on the ride, but any kind of vehicle is welcome.

The Angel Ride to Save the TaTas offers an opportunity to get out on the open road and enjoy the company of others while supporting an effort that can save lives. We encourage everyone who is the least bit interested in the ride to join it and hit the road.
