LifeWorks fundraiser starts Thursday

Virtual event offers fun way to support important group

A unique way to support a local organization that serves the disabled will be held Thursday evening.

It’s the virtual fundraiser for the LifeWorks Charitable Foundation, which provides financial assistance to LifeWorks Community Services. Established in 1965, LifeWorks Community Services provides daily living and employment supports to about 185 people in the Fort Dodge and Humboldt areas.

While fundraisers for various foundations are common, most of them require people to gather together in a designated spot to take part in it. Not this fundraiser. The COVID-19 pandemic forced the organization to move to an entirely online event last year. That format is being used again this year.

It will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday. People can watch it and participate by going to the LifeWorks Facebook page.

The event will include videos explaining the residential, work and day programs offered by LifeWorks. There will be an auction for things like a weekend stay in a unique structure called a yurt, a Wild Rose casino package, sports memorabilia, and tickets to Iowa Cubs games.

LifeWorks has an outstanding reputation for serving our friends and neighbors who need some extra support as they strive to live life to their fullest potential. The organization is worthy of broad support.

We encourage everyone to participate. The fundraiser provides an opportunity to learn some things, have fun and acquire some nice auction items, all while supporting a great cause.
