Sweet treats can help break chains of addiction

Fundraiser supports Gateway to Discovery

Area residents can pick up some goodies and at the same time support women who are breaking the bonds of addiction during a special fundraising event.

It’s called A Sweet Treat Drive Thru and it will generate money for Gateway to Discovery, a two-year residential program for women recovering from addiction.

For a few years, Gateway to Discovery has had a chocolate themed fundraising event. The COVID-19 pandemic wrecked that this year, like it has so many other things. But the women of Gateway to Discovery improvised and adapted. The result is A Sweet Treat Drive Thru. During the event, people can buy a box full of tasty desserts for $20.

The boxes can be purchased from noon to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Hope Sweet Hope Studios, 1900 Fifth Ave. S.

Those who don’t have a sweet tooth or are concerned about inflicting damage to their waistline can still contribute to this worthy cause.

There are three silent auctions to be held via Facebook, and the first one is underway.

Also, there are raffle tickets for sale for a variety of items. The tickets cost $5 and are available at Hope Sweet Hope Studios.

The Gateway to Discovery program has shown that it works wonders. Its graduates offer compelling and emotional accounts of how it has freed them from the clutches of meth and other substances when no other program would work.

Now it’s time for the public to support the women in that program. We encourage everyone to buy a box of treats, bid in the silent auction and buy raffle tickets.
