US Navy must be kept state-of-the-art

Some defense analysts have warned the U.S. Navy is not capable of dealing with all the ocean-borne threats in our modern world. Recently, North Korea provided a reminder of how the naval power situation is changing.

A North Korean submarine fired a ballistic missile that flew about 310 miles, it was reported Wednesday. That is the longest distance the Pyongyang regime’s navy has achieved.

It heightens the threat level from North Korea, especially given the fact that country possesses nuclear devices.

Clearly, a comprehensive evaluation of the U.S. Navy’s capabilities is in order – followed, if necessary, by a program to expand its power to meet emerging threats. Once the election is over and Congress and the new president are in Washington, this matter should get priority attention by our nation’s leaders.
