Playing politics with the power to pardon

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, an old friend of Hillary and Bill Clinton, tried to do her a favor about a month ago. People convicted of felonies are more likely to vote for Democrats, some election analysts say. So McAuliffe declared tens of thousands of them who have been released from prison should be allowed to vote.

But voting rights cannot be restored to felons except on a case-by-case basis, a court ruled.

McAuliffe tried again, restoring the voting rights of about 13,000 ex-convicts. Each case was reviewed individually, he claims.

Give us a break. How carefully and critically can such a slap-dash affair have been handled? One can only wonder how many rubber stamps were worn out in the process.
