Clinton will head Democratic ticket

Hillary Clinton has become the Democratic Party’s presumptive nominee for president. Primary elections Tuesday reinforced that she is over the top. Challenger Sen. Bernie Sanders has been relegated to has-been status.

All the more important, then, for the troubling questions about Clinton to be answered.

Among them, of course, is her apparent mishandling of top-secret material while secretary of state. The FBI continues its painstaking investigation into her plainly illegal use of a private email server, with Justice Department officials mum about when conclusions – possibly leading to a grand jury presentation – will be reached.

And despite Clinton’s claims there is nothing more to learn about the 2012 terrorist attack that killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans, questions remain there, too. Clinton was secretary of state at the time.

Why were warning signs about terrorist activity in Benghazi ignored?

Why was help not sent sooner to the beleaguered Americans there?

Perhaps most unsettling, why did Clinton and others in President Barack Obama’s administration continue to insist the attack was a spontaneous one caused by an anti-Muslim video – when they knew full well that was not the case?

Many policy questions surround Clinton, too.

Still, character – as Clinton herself has pointed out in criticism of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump – is critical.

As matters stand, voters have plenty of reasons to wonder whether Clinton has the character to be president.
