Happy New Year! Welcome to 2015

Today, we welcome in a new year. Last night, no doubt many readers stayed home, joining the ranks of those sitting on the couch, counting down the final moments of 2014 while participating vicariously in the festivities broadcast from Times Square in New York City.

Others celebrated the passing of another year by making merry until the wee hours of the new year. If you are one of those, we suspect perusal of this newspaper may be taking place a bit later in the day than normal.

And yet others let the new year come in just as they let each new day, week or month arrive – snugly tucked into bed getting some sleep.

There is no right or wrong way to mark the arrival of another year. It’s one of those events, however, to which most of us pay at least a small bit of attention. It’s a good time to reflect on what has gone right – and what has not – in the world and in our own lives. For many, it is also a time to resolve to handle better those things in life over which we have influence.

No doubt, 2015 will have both joy and sorrow, just as has been true of every past year.

Some years obviously turn out to be much better than others.

We hope that the year ahead will prove one of those years it’s a pleasure to look back upon rather than one we’d all rather forget.

Next year at this time, we’ll know whether that hope was fulfilled.

Happy New Year – welcome to 2015.
