Ross "Corky" Read, 82, of Otho passed away on Friday, September 18, 2026, at the Marian Home while under hospice care. Visitation will be held from 4:30 - 6:00 PM with a service at 6:00 PM on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Ross Lee Read, the son of Ross and Rosemary (Hall) Read, was born on September 9, 1944, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1962. Corky worked for Iowa Beef for 22 years and later retired after 25 years with Georgia Pacific.
Corky first married Kay Fredrickson, and they had two children before divorcing. On June 19, 1992, he married Linda (Holmes) Hanson. He enjoyed spending time with family, bonfires, hunting, fishing and cooking his catch, and really enjoyed playing golf and racing.
Survivors include his children, Brenda (John) McBride of Fort Dodge and Monty (Lori) Read of Clare; his stepdaughters, Nichole Townsend (Kevin Koliner) of Sioux Falls and Jodi (Ryan) Reekers of Fort Dodge; his grandchildren, Nick (Cassy) McBride, Ashley (Brady) Coleman, Austin (Becca) Read, Brady (Anna) Read, Alexis Read, Brooklyn Townsend, Brynn Townsend, and Madalyn Reekers; and five great-grandchildren, Everett, Clara, Linden, Graham, and Calan with two more on the way. He is also survived by his sister, Vicki Boyington.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, in 2016; his brother, David Read; and his parents, Ross and Rosemary.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
